TORONTO: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) Ontario Director, John Williamson, sent a letter to all government MPPs today urging them to do what is necessary to see that the upcoming provincial budget is tabled in the legislative assembly at Queen's Park, rather than in a television studio.

Mr. Speaker Carr and noted parliamentary experts have already spoken out against the decision by Premier Ernie Eves to present the March 27th budget in front of a handpicked group. "This breaks with long standing parliamentary convention and is an unnecessary expenditure when we already have a building to table the budget in," Williamson said today. "Queen's Park is already paid for, let's use it instead of trying to dress up this made-for-TV gimmick as serious governing."

The CTF is Canada's largest taxpayer advocacy organization with over 60,000 supporters. Established in 1990, it is federally incorporated not-for-profit organization. The CTF is non-partisan and its three-fold mandate is to: Act as a watchdog on government spending; inform citizens of the impact of government policy decisions on their well-being; and advocate fiscal and democratic reform.
